Elvis... in the Park

Brad Boice, ETA
Brad has been an Elvis Tribute Artist since June of 2005.

He is one of the best ETA's I've met and I really enjoy his shows.

I had fun playing with my lens attachment that I used when doing the Golf Tourney I photographed the other week.

The last photo I submitted to the Mankato Free Press was July 2008 where 1200 hogs were parished in that fire. Read more about that fire here. The photo has been removed over time but the interview is still posted at the Mankato Free Press site.

June 7, 2010 Charity Golf Tourney

Urban Ventures
Bear Path Country Club,
Eden Prairie, MN

Hey I have been out of the loop for awhile, Sorry.

I suppose I am having just too much fun at work... and at
play. LOL

Here are some images I captured at a charity event up at Bear Path Country Club in Eden Prairie, MN

To say that I had a lot of fun would be just touching upon the truth!

Capturing the action shots are so cool! Who would have known that golf was so much fun.. at least it was from my side of the lens.

Not quite a hole in one... but that was one of the best shots I've seen crossing the pond!

Oh, and speaking of lenses, playing with a new lens or even an attachment is so much fun... just to see what they can do!

Day 41

STOP! Back up the car, and look.

I stop, they stop.
I look, they look.
I wonder if I looked as comfortable in my surroundings as they did in theirs. Hmmmm......

I thought it was quite funny how they all turned to look at me and stopped eating, just because I slowed down and put my car in reverse to look at them.

Dueling Pianos?

Not quite the Dueling Pianos, but instead, a change of DOF. Once again, there is no right way or a wrong way, just a preference of choice.

Day 35/365

My first Boudoir Session

boudoir (noun) A boudoir is a lady's private bedroom, sitting room or dressing room. The term derives from the French verb bouder, meaning 'to pout'

Well, the only pouting Kim did was because I wouldn't let her go get the rest of her shoes. We had them all around her for a previous outfit change...that was before she went to cook her dad something to eat at 12:30 am. Twenty minutes later when she got back, I was winding down and ready to pack up I was so tired. But we had so much fun!

Kim is the most beautiful grandma I ever did see. Her 1st granddaughter was born weighing in at 2lbs 5 oz on Jan 25. Yes, she was born prematurely, then airlifted to Rochester's St Mary's, the same place my grandson spent the 1st 3 1/2 weeks of his life at. But so far she and mommy are both doing fine.

Kim needed a night of play... with no stress, and nothing to worry about and her shoes do make her happy! I will be posting more images on my web site within a few weeks.

Thanks for all the fun Kim!

Day 34/365

A Beautiful Sunrise!

I promised myself one day last week that I would get up early enough one day and go enjoy a photo perfect view of the sun rising. Well, I was running late for my 7am dentist appointment, but found a moment to pull over and capture a few images.

Now this is worth getting up early for.

Day 33/365

A bit of history

Today I will not me posting an image taken on this date, but instead, I'd like to share a bit of history with you.

The year was 1959. Fifty-one years ago today, on a cold February evening....

Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens & The Big Bopper all appeared at he Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. This was to be the night that all three acts played their final show... before being killed in a plane crash early the following morning.

For more info about this day in history and these three legends that made history, click here.

These are a few of the images that I capture at the 'Kato Ballroom' in Jan 2009. It was 50 years earlier to the day that the three whom perished in that plane crash played at this ballroom. Above you will see Tommy Allsup, along with the Buddy Holly Tribute Artist. You'll also see Ritchie Lee, the Ritchie Valens Tribute Artist and one of my favorite photos of Tommy Allsup.

Of all the people there in Clear Lake, IA, Waylon Jennings, Tommy Allsup and Buddy's back up band were not on that small plane, but instead on a freezing bus, heading for the next city to play the next venue in the 'Winter Dance Party of 1959".

Day 32/365

A Snowy Day...

Wow! Can you believe it? One-twelfth of this new year is gone! The snow storm today kept me at home where it was safe and warm. I had the television on today while I was trying to get other things done... America's Next Top Model! It got me so inspired... no, I didn't break out my studio, but I did find me a beautiful little model! Here she is... I think I worked her too hard.

Once again you will find me playing around with the white balance. Originally this started out as me having my daughter just grab my camera and capture this gorgeous little girl's expression when she grabbed her toy.

I set the camera to automatic and had my daughter, Sarah, stand above Rachael just a bit to get only her head and the sofa in the photo as I didn't want to edit out the video cabinet or the wall behind her. That was the first 3 or 4 photos. I found one that I loved...

Then I grabbed the camera, and changed it to manual settings. With the manual settings, the camera reverted back to florescent lighting that was there the other night, as I didn't change it. So I studied the EXIF data on both images and seen that when in fully auto mode, the camera's white balance was capturing the image in 'auto' mode which gave it a more natural skin tone. And manual, well, once again, left her looking blue. I corrected the color in Photoshop. But today's lesson for me was experimenting with the settings on the camera.

But those pictures were so cute, I had to share them with you. She got a bit tired at the end so I gave her the horse back and she just fell asleep propped up in the corner of the sofa. Isn't she the cutest model you've ever seen?
